In the world of social justice, I realize there are many ways to approach content. My personal style comes from a sincere belief that everyone’s future is dependent upon raising children who genuinely care about others, and if we happen to change the minds of some adults in the process, even better! The Line Leaders curriculum highlights a broad approach to social justice, noting that first we must love and appreciate ourselves before we can move forward and be welcoming and supportive to others. Line Leaders also breaks barriers regarding what identities deserve our attention and protection. The Line Leaders approach is meant to encourage empathy and action that doesn’t stop at the identities with which we identify most.
However, you don’t have to rely solely on my input. The Guide includes questions from families who have invested in its creation and plenty of input from various knowledgable folks in education and social justice spaces. The Guide is a well-rounded resource for families and educators that can adapt to your needs and grow as you do.
Line Leaders is sharply focused on influential topics of today and methods of moving forward in the future. Our recommended reading list is intentionally modern and represents a diverse wealth of identities. Discussion prompts offer helpful ways to get kids thinking and supportive projects further learning. For each topic, there’s an activity (or two or three) that reinforces the themes and also comes with its own explanation. The Guide is ultra-flexible, in the way I’d want it to me because sometimes teaching is overwhelming and kids have off days that require us to adapt.
